The Transition from Tradition to Modernity

This inter-regional cooperation project is being developed with the help of the “Leader Plus” initiative. There are five groups in Spain that are involved in this initiative: CEDERNA GARALUR, from the Montaña de Navarra region, AGUJAMA and ALSIADER in Maestrazgo and Sierra de Albarracín respectively, GALSINMA in Sierra de Madrid and the Consortium for Rural Development in Eastern Asturias in the Picos de Europa. All of these organisations work with a small community of traditional herders from the mountains who practice transhumance to a certain extent. Proyecto Pastor aims to promote this activity under threat through a series of group and individual measures that include modern initiatives to attract young people like training.
